Mark 11:24 NIV: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Dear Friends,

Stephanie and I come to you today with some joyous news that our Heavenly Father has made possible!  The Great Physician continues to bless our Alison with His mercy and healing!  Praise be to God!  Alison had a chest x-ray this morning that brought tears to our eyes.  Her attending neonatologist came in and said that she had to look at the x-ray several times to make sure that it was indeed Alison’s—the result—a perfectly normal set of lungs.  There was no fluid present in Alison’s pleural space (the membrane that surrounds her lungs), the x-ray was not hazy in appearance (from fluid inside her lungs), and there was nothing remarkable about her lungs on the x-ray.  Praise be to God!

This is such a tremendous blessing from our Lord in Heaven!  We take nothing away from the healthcare professionals who have so capably tended to our daughter.  They have done a remarkable and loving job.  Yet, even they are amazed at our daughter's progress.  The reason—we believe—is the Lord has mercifully smiled upon our daughter!  Praise be to God!  If you are unfamiliar with why we would say this, please read “A Story of Mercy” on Alison’s homepage.

In addition, Alison was removed from CPAP today at 10:00 AM and placed on a high-flow nasal canula.  Her two-hour CO2 came back elevated (77), but it was low enough that her doctor decided to let Alison ride until 8:00 PM—when she will have a second blood gas test.  Please pray that the Lord would bless Alison’s lungs with the necessary strength to properly exchange the CO2 (carbon dioxide) with oxygen.  Please pray that the Lord would continue to bless the doctors, nurses and specialists who are tending to our daughter with His love, wisdom, insight and understanding of Alison’s body.  Please praise the Lord with us for all that He has made possible.  We love you and appreciate your continued willingness to stand in the gap for our daughter!

Blessings to you,

Langston and Stephanie

9:00 PM Update

Alison's second blood gas test showed a CO2 of 80.  Alison's attending neonatologist told us earlier today that she was hoping for a CO2 of 80 or lower.  Alison will stay on the high-flow nasal canula through the night and will have another blood gas test in the morning.  Please continue to pray that the Lord's presence would be strong with Alison through the night.  Praise God for all that He has made possible!

10/26/06 9:30 AM Update

Alison's morning blood gas test showed a CO2 of 55!  Praise our merciful Father in Heaven!

10/27/06 9:00 AM Update

Alison's morning blood gas test came back elevated (87).  She will be retested at 12:00 PM because she was fussing a good bit this morning (fussing can affect a CO2 score).  If her blood gas remains elevated, Alison will have to be returned to CPAP for a little while to help remove the elevated CO2 from her blood.  Please pray that the Lord would bless Alison's lungs with the necessary strength to properly exchange the CO2 in her blood with oxygen.  Thank you for your continued prayers for our Alison.

10/28/06 6:00 PM Update

Alison struggled this morning to maintain a good CO2. Her neonatologists changed Alison from Bolus feeds (every three hours) to feeding her over an hour with a two-hour break (to give her stomach some rest).  They also took Alison off the nasal canula today and put her in a small oxygen tent to allow her to breathe on her on (but in a controlled-environment).  She has responded well to these two changes and seems to be regaining her momentum.  It is amazing to see her totally responsible for her own breathing!  Praise be to God!  Please pray that the Lord would be close to Alison and grant her His strength and healing.  Please pray that the Lord would grant His wisdom to Alison's caregivers.  Please pray that the Lord would protect Alison from the evil one.  Thank you for continuing to stand in the gap for Alison.  We will post pictures of Alison's new environment and a more complete update Monday morning.  Blessings to you!

10/29/06 9:00 AM Update

Alison's morning blood gas test showed a CO2 of 66!  Praise be to our Lord!  Alison's morning blood gas test yesterday showed a CO2 of 104.  Please continue yesterday's prayer requests.
